Calypso Cascade Elev. 9,200 ft.

Successful trial upload from my Blackberry at Rocky Mountain National Park, Wild Basin area. First day out in the park, "warm up" hike with B on his 7th birthday, we did about 5 miles, topping out at 9100'. It was a perfect hike to help him remember how to pace himself, hydrate, rest when needed, and descend rocky trails with sure footing. He enjoyed having his own camera to shoot whatever he wanted...mostly chipmunks and waterfalls. Enjoyable for me because of how well my boots and pack seem to be broken in already, the terrific weather, and the energetic and happy-go-lucky company of my son who finds delight in the smallest of things.

"You see that? Next year I'm going to climb that with Mom."

That's what Little Bro B told his big brother last July. Fast forward to a year later and here we are, packing for Colorado. Our goal: Flat Top Mountain, elevation 12, 324 ft. A side benefit to this adventure is the chance to break in some of my new equipment and get some conditioning at a higher altitude.
